Please be cautious if this happens to you on your visit. I will be taking my concerns up with the management as this behaviour is unacceptable and poor customer service. As we had limited funds I would have preferred to give contributions to the staff who actually work within the grounds than the front desk. We paid and appreciated a honest & pleasant hour with our guide. I got extremely annoyed as this has happened to other customers before but it's obvious there is discrimination and fraudulent activities by staff.Īs we had travelled a distance to enjoy the day. I asked to pay by card the excuse by the receptionist was ' we can only accept 6,000 by card and rest by cash. They asked what nationality we were, which was unusual as we travel all the time. We asked for price on arrival which we were aware of was 6,000 pp. Our successful, integrated approach includes close collaboration with local governments and communities as well as partners from around the world. Unfortunately, the male & female receptionist staff are con- artist!! Who We Are Our Mission: The Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund is dedicated to the conservation, protection and study of gorillas and their habitats in Africa. Tour guide Jessica was amazing naturally engaging and may the experience welcoming throughout the tour. That said, as an averagely fit 30 something it was not so hard and the 70+Yr old hiker in our group managed just fine! A great way to experience the national park Overall a fab experience, would not recommend if totally unfit or inexperienced in hiking, the altitude is significant (3500m) and at points it is constant climbing. We did not see gorilla but we did get stopped by large mountain buffalo and our soldier escort stepped in to move them on (very dangerous animals). Once at the top the camp itself is relatively unassuming (non existent really) but its poignant and interesting to see. Expect another steep section that flattens out to deep mud and bog in wet season, be careful not to lose your shoes. Once inside a gate you will collect your military escort and begin the amazing walk inside the ethereal misty forest. The hike starts in farm land and rises quickly and steeply to the park entrance. The last 15 minutes are real off road, walking pace speed crawling over boulders and rocks, a 4x4 is absolutely mandatory ( our Landcruiser was perfectly capable). Once there you need to self drive (or your driver) about 30 mins to the trail start in a beautiful rural town on the volcano side. You start at the Volcanos national park at 7am for sign in, free hot drink on arrival and there is a great atmosphere as everyone gathers for their respective hikes or gorilla trips. Let me start by providing some practical information as we found it tricky to get any real details before we arrived in Rwanda.
